Experience a Relaxed State of Mind during Your Dental Treatment

Sedation Dentistry Frisco

Nobody should forgo dental care because of fear or anxiety. Unfortunately, dental phobia prevents many people from undergoing the dental treatment they need, and in turn, this leads to tooth decay, gum disease, and poor oral health. For the benefit of our patients, and to ensure that individuals seek the dental care that they need, we offer sedation dentistry treatment at Frisco Family Dentistry. When sedated, you will be in a relaxed, calm state of mind.

You will remain conscious and able to respond to commands if need be, but you will have little memory of the procedure and will experience little or no anxiety. To learn more about sedation dentistry, or to schedule a consultation with Dr. Dominic Nuosce, we invite you to contact our dental office today.

Oral Conscious Sedation

With oral conscious sedation, you are prescribed a pill approximately one hour prior to your treatment. As the pill (often Halcion or a similar sedative drug) will leave you in an inhibited state both during and after treatment, you will be asked to have someone escort you to and from the dental office. Unlike IV sedation, which is administered through an intravenous injection by an anesthesiologist, oral conscious sedation is easily prescribed. You simply swallow the sedative as you would any over-the-counter drug. Once the pill takes effect, you will feel groggy and sleepy. This state of relaxation will greatly reduce or eliminate any anxiety you were experiencing. Simple, fast acting, and effective, oral conscious sedation is the sedation dentistry method of choice at our Frisco dental practice.

Anesthetic – Considerations

It is important to note that oral conscious sedation does not provide pain relief. It simply quells anxiety or fear by putting the patient into a relaxed state of mind. If your treatment causes discomfort, a local anesthetic will be administered to relive pain. Depending on your treatment, we may utilize both a sedative and an anesthetic. During your initial consultation with Dr. Nuosce, you can discuss your treatment with him in detail, and he can advise you of how our team will approach your procedure. We educate each of our patients on the scope of their treatment so that they can make an informed decision regarding their oral health, and you can rest assured that we will do the same with you.

We encourage our patients to visit our dental practice twice yearly for dental examinations and cleanings, as regular preventive dental care can help you maintain your oral health and guard against tooth and gum decay. Even if you practice good oral hygiene at home, your oral health is likely to degrade if you do not seek regular professional treatment. Unfortunately, many individuals opt to visit the dentist only after the damage has been done. With regular care, we can prevent this from happening. If anxiety is keeping you from the dentist and you are interested in learning more about the benefits of sedation dentistry, the team at our Frisco practice would be happy to help you. Please contact Dr. Nuosce today to schedule a consultation. There is a solution to your dental anxiety.
