Natural-looking, Functional Tooth Replacements

Dental Implants Frisco

If you are missing a tooth, several teeth, or suffer from severely decayed teeth, you may be able to restore the appearance and function of your smile with a dental implant. At our Frisco dental practice, Dr. Dominic Nuosce specializes in implant restorations and can determine whether you would be a good candidate for the treatment. If so, he can select the appropriate dental restoration for your needs and see that it is seamlessly integrated into your smile. One of the most durable and permanent options for replacing missing or severely damaged teeth, dental implants are designed to provide a full range of benefits for decades. To schedule a consultation regarding dental implants, we encourage you to contact Frisco Family Dentistry today.

Dental Implants – Overview

Dental implants are titanium posts that serve as artificial tooth roots. The implants are placed into the edentulous site of the jaw bone (the location of the missing or extracted tooth) through a surgical procedure that involves the drilling of a pilot hole into the treatment location. Once the pilot hole has been established and the gum tissue has been relocated, the titanium post is screwed into the bone. After the implant has been placed, the titanium fuses to the jaw bone through a process known as osseointegration. This results in a durable, strong bond that allows the implant to serve as an artificial tooth root for dental restorations, or prosthetics. During the healing process, which can last for several months, temporary dental restorations will be worn.

Dental Restorations – The Options

There are a number of dental restoration options, as implants can be used to support multiple types of dental prosthetics. The type of dental restoration that is right for you will be decided after your initial consultation with Dr. Nuosce. He will discuss your goals with you in person, examine your jaw structure and the condition of your smile, advise you of your options and make a recommendation. As a specialist in dental restorations, he will choose one of the following:

  • Dental Crowns – An artificial tooth made from porcelain, crowns look and function like natural teeth. A dental crown represents an ideal solution for someone who is missing or replacing just one tooth. Once secured to the dental implant, the crown will blend in with your smile and restore full functionality.
  • Dental Bridges – If you are missing multiple teeth, a dental bridge is often selected to restore the appearance and function of your smile as it offers a more practical, more affordable alternative to placing multiple dental implants and multiple restorations. A dental bridge consists of one or more artificial tooth sandwiched between two dental crowns; these crowns are then connected to natural teeth or dental implants, allowing the prosthetic to “bridge” large gaps in the smile.
  • Implant-supported Dentures – Individuals who are missing most of their teeth will likely benefit from an implant-supported denture. Unlike a traditional denture, which is loosely secured with an adherent, an implant-supported denture is secured to multiple dental implants (four, for example, spread out across the jaw line) for a durable and reliable fit. Natural-looking and functional, dentures can restore your appearance and improve your speech and chewing.

Gaps in the teeth can result in a myriad of oral health complications, including malocclusion and speech impediments. With dental restorations, you can restore your oral health and your smile.
